MANILA , 26 JULY 2006 - NEC Philippines foresees double-digit growth this year resulting from its strategic and unique position as a provider of solutions and technology geared for the next generation networks.
The upbeat prospects will be brought about by the combined impact of the introduction of a slew of new products and solutions that create distinct competitive advantages and effectiveness for users who are now ready for the important move.
These products range from servers, solutions for wireless hardware and contact centers and Internet Protocol (IP), and civilian biometric-based identification systems.
This also means NEC will now expand its markets into the much wider fields of manufacturing, utilities, financial services and even into new territories, the Visayas and Mindanao .
“After providing mainly telecommunications solutions to the Philippines market in the past 10 years, we will now offer a brave new world of new products and services that cater to the needs of the next generation networks,” Mr. Leondardo Santos, Executive Vice President & Country Manager of NEC Philippines said.
NEC Philippines’ local positioning dovetails with NEC’s global strategy that utilizes its well-established track record of excellence in the development of pioneering and innovative products and services that were precursors to today’s next generation network technologies.
This includes the construction of NGNs for telecommunications and service providers and platform systems for new services arising from the convergence of telecommunications and finance and broadcasting.
“Our long history of public communications experience enables us to have end-to-end solutions, from provider of the basic network infrastructure all the way to the consumer side,” Santos added.
“NEC can provide handsets, mobile computing solutions, as well as other solutions that enable people to do the things that they do for their business, government services, and entertainment and living, as the case may be,” he said.
NEC Philippines is the local subsidiary of NEC Corporation of , currently No. 128 on the 2005 Fortune Global 500 list, and ranking 4th among global information communication technology (ICT) companies. The company, which is celebrating its 10th year in the country today, will be introducing new products and services this year as part of this new strategy.
Among the new products lined up for launching are NEC’s SE7000, wireless LANs, new lines of servers, a civilian Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) meant to facilitate government and private sector transactions, and contact center solutions.
NEC’s biometrics technology is also expected to move criminal detection to a higher plane with the introduction of mobile terminals for validating criminal identification.
NEC Philippines is expected to take a more active role in actively integrating many useful solutions using NEC’s own convergent information and communication technology products as well as in forging partnerships with other solutions providers and capitalizing on their previous successes.
Although formally incorporated only in April 1996, NEC has been actively providing services to the Philippine market for 30 years.
Before its evolution into today’s well-diversified and ubiquitous provider of critical network technologies, NEC used to be known mainly as a voice network company. “However, we have been involved in some major communication technology projects. ATO radars and media transmitters, for example," Santos said.
In the past decade, NEC has provided products and services to a diverse client base. Among NEC Philippines existing client base are Philippine Seven Corporation, Philippine National Police, Philippine Association of Provincial Telephone Companies, Honda Cars Manufacturing, Makati Shangri-La, Marco Polo Hotel, Petron Corporation, Globe Telecommunications, Smart Telecommunications, Air Transportation Office, ABS CBN and many more.
NEC Philippines has also moved to a new office at the Rufino Tower in Makati where much of the strategizing and execution of plans are now expected to take place.
NEC Philippines is headed by Mr. Tomohiro Yagi, CEO of NEC Solutions Asia Pacific based in Singapore but NEC Philippines holds the distinction of being the first country to have an all-local in-country team.
