Tokyo, January 28, 2008 - NEC Corporation and NEC Infrontia Corporation have completed development of a new compact, touch screen POS terminal aimed at the international retail and food and beverage markets. The companies intend to release the TWINPOS3500G1 gradually across South-East Asia, Greater China and the USA.
NEC boasts a long history of achievement in the development, construction and management of systems for the domestic and international retail and food and beverage industries. The new TWINPOS3500G1 draws on this vast experience and accumulated know-how to offer the below features.
1. Space-saving design that enables the terminal to be installed in small service areas – it occupies 45% (1) the space of conventional touch screen POS terminals.
2. A touch-panel screen and flash memory delivers a fan-less and keyboard-less unit. The new hardware design experiences fewer breakdowns and incorporates energy-saving functions that make it a more environmentally friendly offering.
3. A metal-frame configuration delivers a more robust structure that can withstand a greater level of external pressure.
4. The unit is packaged with dedicated application software for the retail and restaurant industries (2).
5. Choice of 4 different models. In addition to a basic configuration with operator screen and flash disk memory, the line up includes models with a line customer display and inbuilt hard disk drive (3).
6. The new POS terminal offers expanded utility and can be used as a wall-mounted POS terminal or input station (4).
The NEC Group established a Global Retail and Service Solutions Division in April 2007 to specialize in Distribution and Service Industries Solutions, and is actively developing business in this area in three key business regions: the USA, Greater China and South-East Asia. Full-scale efforts to expand operations are underway, with international sales targeted to reach 20 billion yen in FY2009. The group aims to ship a total of 30,000 POS terminals, including the new TWINPOS3500G1, to the three business regions in FY2009.
To achieve these targets the NEC Group intends to position and market the new TWINPOS3500G1 as a leading product in its global business expansion strategy.
Specifications for the new POS terminal are attached.
