Tokyo, March 26, 2009 - NEC Corporation announced today the expansion of its popular CX2000 family of intelligent multi-service switches with the release of the new CX2800 Series. The new series elevates the CX2000 family into the 10G era, and is positioned as the “heavy-lifting” solution for switching capacity, traffic engineering and guaranteed SLA (Service Level Agreement) service quality for tomorrow’s LTE and multi-service backhaul networks.
The CX2800 Series has already been selected by NTT DOCOMO, INC. for their new mobile backhaul LTE network. The companies are currently engaged in testing and optimization activities in preparation for commercial service.
As an LTE network solution leader, NEC has already been selected by NTT DOCOMO as a vendor for the development and manufacture of LTE wireless base station infrastructure, SAE core network systems and the LTE cellular-phone terminals to be used in its future LTE Network.
Although just launched today, NEC has already secured strong demand from customers seeking reliable, “long life” mobile telecommunications networks that are capable of handle exponential traffic growth. The CX2800 has been specially designed for upgrades to 40G and 100G technologies as needed in the future.
Both smart and compact, the CX2800 offers PBB, VPLS and IP/MPLS traffic engineering capabilities in order to simplify the implementation of LTE and multi-service transport. Furthermore, as part of NEC’s ongoing commitment to the environment, the CX2800 reduces power consumption per unit of switching capacity by 70% in comparison to the previous generations, while also boasting 10 times the switching capacity per rack unit.
NEC aims to globally provide the CX2800 Series to worldwide mobile communications carriers in the process of deploying advanced transport networks. The CX2800 Series, like other CX2000 equipment, will simplify new network implementation, and enable business model innovation, such as backhaul sharing and wholesaling to SLA standards. Greater control and transparency are achieved through Ethernet OAM, intelligent QoS and advanced path management technologies, which allow the monitoring and management of end-to-end multi-level network performance for individual customers and a wide variety of services.
