Tokyo, 2 April 2009 – NEC Corporation announced today its selection by Vietnam’s GTEL-Mobile (Headquarters: Ha Noi, Vietnam, CEO: Mr. Alexey Blyumin) to deploy a mobile backhaul solution based on NEC’s ultra compact microwave communications system, PASOLINK.
GTEL is the latest mobile operator to enter the Vietnamese market and its mobile services are expected to begin later this year. PASOLINK will be introduced in Ho Chi Minh and the surrounding area in support of GTEL’s network. PASOLINK’s flexibility enables the system to process a wide variety of transmission speeds and interfaces within the same platform, which facilitates mobile traffic growth and expansion of mobile network coverage in Vietnam.
NEC has supplied PASOLINK to nearly all of the mobile operators in Vietnam, and boasts a n overwhelming share of the country’s ultra compact microwave communications system market. NEC views its selection to provide this latest microwave system as recognition of GTEL’s high regard for NEC services and systems.
PASOLINK’s greatest advantages include its ability to easily and inexpensively respond to increasing telecommunications needs. The system is capable of expanding transmission capacity according to increases in communications traffic, as well as flexibly responding to various interfaces via identical platforms through software upgrades, rather than the addition of costly new hardware. Furthermore, an exceptional MTBF (Mean Time between Failure) of more than one hundred years, achieved through the NEC Group’s integrated production system, ensures the product’s long term reliability.
The rapidly increasing number of mobile phone subscribers and individuals accessing mobile Internet services require swift creation and support of microwave communications systems and quality infrastructure. As a leading global provider of wireless broadband communications systems, NEC will continue to proactively develop and promote innovative new technologies.
