Tokyo, July 22, 2010 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today the conclusion of an agreement to provide Norkring Slovenia (Headquarters: Ljubljana; President: Christian Skottun), a Slovenia based commercial broadcaster, with “PASOLINK NEO,” NEC’s ultra compact microwave communications system, through NEC Eastern Europe. As a result of this agreement, NEC now provides the PASOLINK system to 16 countries throughout Eastern Europe, in addition to the systems it has deployed in 144 countries all over the world.
Norkring Slovenia is driving the creation of new broadcasting infrastructure in preparation for Slovenia’s scheduled launch of terrestrial digital broadcasting in September 2010. Under the terms of the contract, NEC will deploy PASOLINK throughout all of Slovenia, helping to connect the country’s digital TV transmitters.
In April 2010, NEC’s affiliate, NEC Europe, established NEC Eastern Europe Ltd. (Headquarters: Budapest, Hungary; Representative: Toru Koishi) in order to strengthen its regional business. In addition to providing hardware, NEC Eastern Europe capitalizes on its industry know-how by providing solutions that include customized products for individual customers, engineering services through the development of original tools, maintenance and support.
PASOLINK NEO enables customers to expand transmission capacity easily and affordably for increasing communications traffic by upgrading software for a single platform that flexibly supports a wide variety of interfaces, without the need to purchase additional hardware.
It is expected that the market demand and need for greater performance from technologies that connect to base stations, such as PASOLINK, will become increasingly strong as the number of mobile phone users rapidly increases, mobile Internet services continue to grow worldwide and broadband access markets continue to expand. Looking forward, NEC will proactively support the product development and sale of ultra compact microwave communications systems as one of the industry’s leading providers.
