Tokyo, August 31, 2010 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today that it will attend LTE Asia 2010 on September 7-8, 2010 at the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel in, Hong Kong. It is the fifth annual event for Asia dedicated to LTE (Long-Term Evolution), the next-generation mobile broadband technology.
Representatives from NEC will present papers and join panel discussions outlining the opportunities for mobile operators looking to evolve their mobile networks towards future IT and mobile broadband services.
• Day 1, 16:40, Dr Shahram Niri, Director of Global LTE/SAE Strategy, NEC Europe Ltd. will join a panel discussion on “What Needs to Change in terms of Deployment and Operation Models to Realize the Potential of LTE?”
• Day 2, 14:20, Dr Vaia Sdralia, Senior Product Manager, Global LTE/SAE Strategy, NEC Europe Ltd. will present the paper, “Developing new revenue streams for LTE: Welcome to the Cloud Era”. Dr Sdralia will explore the potential revenue opportunities enabled by cloud-services pockets, backed by small-cell LTE.
“LTE and Cloud will form the mainstay of next-generation mobile networks as operators seek dynamic yet pragmatic business and operation models for the roll out of future mobile broadband and IT services,” said Dr Niri. “NEC’s innovative and unique LTE small cell solution with SON (Self-Organizing Network) capability enables fast network transformation with lower CAPEX and OPEX – helping operators bring quickly to the market new cloud services.”
NEC is already working with NTT DOCOMO, INC. and KDDI Corporation on the development and production of LTE solutions. In addition, NEC has participated in LTE field trials with the SingTel Group and Telefonica S.A. NEC aims to leverage its LTE development and field experience in order to maximize the company’s contributions to the early commercialization of LTE.
By using NEC’s LTE small cells and compact products, mobile operators can tailor the provision of their LTE services according to capacity demand from small-scale to wide-scale commercial deployments. NEC’s small cells are SON managed, which allows mobile operators to deploy and operate LTE efficiently, easily and quickly and at a lower cost than previous 2G and 3G deployments.
