NEC Launches ruggedized notebook – ShieldPRO N22A in Nepal

KATHMANDU, 14 September 2010 – NEC Asia Pacific (NEC APAC), a leading IT and network solutions provider and systems integrator based in Singapore, and a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC Corporation (HQ: Japan) announced the launch of NEC’s ruggedized notebook – ShieldPRO N22A at Radisson Hotel, in Kathmandu Nepal today.

Developed on the concept of ruggedness, NEC’s ShieldPRO N22A is an advanced, robust notebook designed and built to provide professionals with uncompromising performance in the harshest environments. This field-proven notebook has been engineered as a tough but easy-to-use model that is lightweight, and packs a range of advanced features to improve reliability, security, impact resistance, battery life, communications and functionality.

This advanced notebook features a touch panel and convertible notebook/tablet format, as well as sophisticated security features like fingerprint recognition log-in system.

Weighing a mere 2.5kg, NEC ShieldPRO N22A can withstand water[1] and dust[2], extreme temperatures from -20℃ to 50℃ and has passed the drop[3], shock[4] and vibration tests, to prove its durability and toughness. With a durable battery performance of up to 12 hours[5], NEC ShieldPRO N22A is RoHS[6]-compliant fitted with built-in and wireless LAN and Bluetooth, a 12.1-inch TFT LCD monitor and a detachable HDD, and comes with a fingerprint recognition censor for heightened security.

The NEC ShieldPRO range is used as a communications and information terminal by professionals in the military, utilities, telecommunications and emergency services to support the most demanding applications: Field operations: electricity, gas, water, communications, railways, construction sites; Inspection and maintenance of all types of equipment and plant machinery; In-vehicle: police, ambulance, firefighting, transport, heavy machinery.

• Improved dust and water resistance (conforming to IP55): (Conforming to IP54 when connecting to dust and water resistant cable)

[1] While the ShieldPRO is turned off, water is sprayed onto the device from all directions for 3 minutes at a rate of 12.5 litres per minute.
[2] During operation, the pressure on the ShieldPRO is reduced by 2kPa and left in a powder environment (below 75μm particle) for 8 hours.
[3] When turned off, the ShieldPRO is dropped 26 times from a height of 90 cm onto plywood on each face, side and corner.
