Tokyo, October 21, 2010 – NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced the sales launch of its new NEC Express5800/ft series (*1) Hyper-V(*2) models with hardware enhancements.
NEC Express5800/ft series fault-tolerant servers are designed for hosting mission-critical business applications in a wide variety of data center environments and industries. NEC Express5800/ft series fault-tolerant servers provide redundancy for all primary hardware components including CPU and memory to avoid system downtime due to hardware failures. Building a Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platform on NEC FT servers can significantly reduce the risk of failure when compared to non-redundant servers. In addition, hardware-based fault tolerance can provide significant performance improvements over software-based fault tolerant solutions.
Main features of new models are as follows:
1. Microsoft Hyper-V 2.0 support
The new NEC FT servers support Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and virtualization platform Hyper-V2.0 to create virtualized environments on fault tolerant hardware. Superior virtualization features of Hyper-V2.0 can now be enjoyed on highly available ft servers. In addition, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise ships with four guest operating system licenses for added cost savings.
2. Latest CPU support and 1.4 times the performance of previous models
Powered by Intel’s latest CPU, the NEC Express5800/R320b-M4 achieves 1.4 times the performance of previous models (*4). As well as Hyper-V’s supreme operational manageability, it delivers high server consolidation capabilities. The new FT models provide an optimal platform for server consolidation.
