NEC Wins Telecom Asia Magazine’s “Femtocell Vendor of the Year” AwardNEC repeats win of a Telecom Asia Magazine Readers’ Choice Award
Tokyo, December 10, 2010 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today that it has won the “Femtocell Vendor of the Year” award at the Telecom Asia Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards 2010.
This is the second time NEC has won a recent Telecom Asia Readers’ Choice Award (*).
The Telecom Asia Readers’ Choice Awards are intended for vendors and suppliers of innovative products that cultivate new markets in the Asian Pacific rim. These awards consist of 24 categories, including femtocell, core network and wireless broadband. The awards process begins in early October with the selection of three to four vendors by industry analysts, consultants and senior telecom carrier members. The readers of Telecom Asia magazine then select their top choices in each category.
“The Telecom Asia Readers’ Choice Award is a proof point of NEC’s leadership and strength in the femtocell market. NEC has nine femtocell contracts with mobile operators around the world as well as 19 femtocell system trials in progress or that have been completed. Also, as a board member of the Femto Forum, NEC continues to play a key role in the worldwide promotion of Femtocell,” said Hirofumi Kikuchi, Chief Manager of NEC’s 2nd Network Solutions Division.
NEC has pioneered the adoption of femtocell technology; its femtocell solution offers mobile operators an enhanced and cost-efficient 3G mobile network that enables them to provide premium mobile services and an excellent mobile consumer experience. NEC’s femtocell solution improves the quality of indoor 3G coverage and provides dedicated 3G capacity for mobile users. This is critical to the objectives of mobile operators seeking to address the retention of their mobile subscriber base and customer acquisition.
NEC’s contributions have been recognized repeatedly by the Femto Forum, including the “Progress in Commercial Deployment” award in 2009, and the “Femtocell Network Design and Technology Innovation” award in 2010.
