NEC Australia signs NBN Co Wholesale Broadband AgreementEnables national expansion into cloud communications

Melbourne, 28 March 2012 – NEC Australia today announced it has signed the Wholesale Broadband Agreement with NBN Co Ltd, clearing the path to expand its comprehensive high-speed wholesale broadband service portfolio across Australia.

NEC Australia expects to offer customers and partners a range of higher bandwidth, high-speed broadband services via the NBN by mid-2012.

"A lengthy consultation process was taken to ensure that the agreement signed with NBN Co provided the best value and service to customers, to ensure we can deliver competitive wholesale broadband services throughout Australia," said NEC Australia's managing director, Alan Hyde.

The agreement with NBN Co allows NEC Australia to further invest in its existing DSLAM-based wholesale broadband and third party networks, which covers 92 per cent of the Australian population -- one of the largest in the country.

NEC Australia’s Nextep will provide wholesale aggregation services on the NBN, offering wholesale internet, data and voice services to new and existing customers once the rollout is commercially established. NEC Australia will provide small to medium sized retail service providers, system integrators and cloud providers with a turnkey solution required to tap into the NBN. Such solutions will provide an alternative for small ISP, Telco or IT businesses to purchase such wholesale services who may otherwise be edged out of the market by the major providers.

Combining NEC Australia’s Cloud Telephony and Cloud Contact Centre solutions with NBN connectivity means that NEC Nextep can provide wholesalers with an end to end solution for voice and data service.

This Panel helps Australian Government agencies procure services to supplement their internal capabilities and achieve savings through the procurement process and better utilisation of aggregated buying power.

Furthermore, the new agreement with NBN Co empowers NEC’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Australian Government to promote innovation and international excellence which capitalises on the roll-out of the NBN.
