NEC Makes Airports Safer with Proven Advanced Aviation TechnologiesTechnology Debut at 7th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly Conference & Exhibition

SINGAPORE, 23 May 2012 – NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) is participating in the 7th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly Conference & Exhibition held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from 22 – 25 May 2012. Themed “We Make Airports Safer”, NEC’s cutting-edge aviation technologies and solutions aimed at assisting airport operators and airline agencies worldwide transform and safeguard airports, will be unveiled for the first time in Asia Pacific at this event.

1.    NEC IDentiBoard® – Reinventing airline boarding security
NEC’s IDentiBoard® is a system designed to provide secured, fast and seamless processing of passengers’ details from check-in, immigration clearance, airport security to boarding, using fully automated uni- or multi-modal biometrics recognition technologies to improve the overall passenger boarding process. This system provides personalized boarding ID, speeds up clearance and improves security at the airport, thereby increasing operational efficiency for flight boarding.

2.    Flight Information Display System – providing essential real-time information
Based on the concept of a user-friendly design, NEC’s Flight Information Display System (FIDS) provides instantaneous information related to flights, airport operations and other general topics that may matter to passengers and airport staff. Japan’s Haneda International Airport has implemented 450 units of FIDS and 20 units of 65-inch digital signage at its premises since October 2010, providing important travel-related information in real-time.

NEC’s integrated security solutions and technologies such as its cutting-edge biometrics authentication technologies are amongst the world’s best, as demonstrated by its leading position in biometrics authentication accredited by the NIST (*). Over the last 30 years, NEC has installed its biometric identification systems for more than 480 customers in more than 30 countries, making it one of the most renowned biometric specialists and the world’s leading technology supplier of fingerprint biometrics for both law enforcement and identity management applications.

Tan Boon Chin, Managing Director at NEC Asia Pacific’s Regional Competency Centre for Public Safety remarked, “NEC is a global leader in biometric technologies, where we deliver the most advanced identification, security and public safety solutions for law enforcement, public sector, and commercial applications. With the aim of making society more satisfying and secured through advanced technologies, NEC is now expanding its suite of ICT technologies and solutions to the transportation industry, in line with our “Safer Cities” concept. As the global travel industry continues to expand with more travellers and flights, the aviation industry can leverage these latest technologies to improve the airport and airlines’ operational efficiency and boost public security.”
