SINGAPORE, 9 April 2006 - The uptake of Internet Protocol (IP) Telephony continues to grow across industry sectors as more companies look beyond the traditional PBX to improve business processes. DORMA Far East, the Far East operation of DORMA International - the global market leader in door controls, movable walls and automatic door systems, and the technology leader in glass fittings - has been quick to appreciate the benefits that IP Telephony can offer in terms of cost savings and enhancing customer experience. Other benefits include survivability, centralized telephony applications and greater mobility for their staff.
Singapore is the regional headquarters for DORMA's operations in the Far East and this region is currently one of DORMA's most successful markets in the world. To keep ahead of its competition, DORMA Far East has identified the need to refresh its existing technology for communication and improve the way it communicates with its audiences, both internally and externally.
"We are currently using standalone traditional telephony systems so the process of efficiently transferring calls between our offices is a real challenge," said Mr. Rowan Tan, Managing Director, DORMA Far East Pte Ltd.
The new infrastructure will streamline communications across DORMA's two offices in as well as improve customer services. DORMA is expected to save in communication cost per annum after having installed an IP Telephony solution by NEC. The savings are due to cost reductions between the two offices. These include a 94% reduction in cost related to inter-office call if it is through Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), a 20% reduction in moving and adding costs, a 50% reduction in application cost like ISDN, Unified Messaging, etc as the IP platform enabled application sharing among the two offices.
"In our business, keeping costs down and enhancing productivity are top priorities. The NEC UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS with IP Remote PIM provides truly integrated networks for voice and data," said Mr. Tan. "Our business is dependent on the ability of our customers to reach us, no matter which offices we are in. The UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS with IP Remote PIM extends high availability IP Telephony to our remote branch offices."
By moving voice traffic to IP networks, companies can reduce or eliminate the toll charges associated with transporting calls over the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Companies can also conserve bandwidth by investing in additional capacity only when it is needed. This is made possible by the distributed nature of IP Telephony and by reduced operations costs as companies combine voice and data traffic into one network.
"By making voice as just another IP application, companies can build truly integrated networks for voice and data. These integrated networks not only provide the quality and reliability of today's PSTN, they also enable companies to quickly and flexibly take advantage of new opportunities," said Mr. Lee Yiew Weng, Product Strategy Director, Private Network Solutions, NEC Solutions Asia Pacific Pte Ltd. "The solution provides a very cost-effective distributed converged enterprise-networking solution."
Note to Editors:
*Remote PIM over IP (Internet Protocol)
The UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS at the central (host) site loaded with IP Remote PIM (IPRP) software is a highly flexible solution that provides telephony feature transparency for all UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS users regardless of physical locations, yet offers a remote survivability function that automatically connects to the public network (PSTN) should the IP network connection with the central site be interrupted. The IPRP essentially converts a remote office to a standalone system until the IP network is restored.
The IPRP solution enables the PBX to provide call handling from a host (central) location. IP WAN can connect all smaller branch offices via their own local PBX processors, creating a converged enterprise voice and data network. Remote office sites under normal operation are now able to cost-effectively leverage the Call Processing, Unified Messaging, Fax Server and other telephony applications maintained at a central site. In the event of a WAN failure, the remote local PBX processor would provide basic call processing and allows normal business continuity via a back-up PSTN through the duration of the failure.
The IPRP offers a highly survivable branch office networking solution while leveraging the benefit of IP Telephony. It allows companies to extend high availability IP Telephony to their remote branch offices with a cost-effective solution that is extremely simple to deploy and manage.
