NEC Solutions Asia Pacific and CSC Computer Sciences strengthen their alliance in bid for Standard ICT Operating Environment (SOE) Project

SINGAPORE, 11 September 2006 – NEC Solutions Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (NECSAP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NEC Corp (NASDAQ:NIPNY), and CSC Computer Sciences Pte Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE:CSC), have strengthened their alliance by entering into an exclusive teaming agreement to bid on the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore’s (IDA) Standard Operating Environment (SOE) Tender.

The SOE project, estimated to be worth S$1.5 billion, aims to standardize desktop and networking systems across all government agencies except the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). The Team NexGenea Consortium, led by NECSAP, is one of four consortia shortlisted by the IDA at this stage in the bidding process. “Genea” (pronounced as “ger-neya”) means “generation” in Greek. NexGenea was chosen to symbolize the next generation of new ideas and innovations. Team NexGenea is focused on creating economic value for the government through the innovative application of next generation technology.

CSC will work with NECSAP to jointly provide desktop, messaging and networking services. The consortium also includes key companies such as Microsoft and ABeam Consulting and other significant players in the local market. In October 2005, CSC purchased the remaining shares of CSA Holdings Limited, making the company a wholly-owned subsidiary of CSC.

Said Mr. Tomohiro Yagi, CEO, NECSAP, “We are very pleased to team up strategically with CSC on our joint bid for this landmark SOE project for the Singapore Public Service. We believe that we complement each other’s strengths and talents. CSC has a strong track record of managing IT outsourcing projects and desktop services similar to the SOE scope in Asia, Australia and the USA. On our end, we are strong in the government sector, having implemented many business process outsourcing (BPO) projects including facility management for the government for more than 20 years. We have an in-depth understanding of the local market and systems, and an extensive suite of IT solutions and networking technology. Both our companies also share best practices and international standards such as IT Infrastructure Library and Control Objectives for Information and related Technology (COBIT) governance which make working together even easier. We believe that our consortium offers the best customer value and user experience with our best-of-breed solutions and services.”

“CSC has a wealth of experience in managing large-scale and complex outsourcing engagements,” said Mr. George Bell, President of CSC’s operations in Asia. “Standard operating environments, business transformation and continuous innovation are foundations of all CSC’s engagements. We will employ these and other processes, tools and experience we have developed over the past 46 years in combination with NECSAP’s expertise, to achieve the IDA’s SOE tender objectives.”

CSC has won numerous large government and commercial outsourcing contracts worldwide and are strong in the government sector. Many of the commercial contracts are global in nature, with CSC serving a customer across many countries. In Asia, CSC’s customers include Motorola, DuPont, Maybank as well as several Singapore corporations.

NEC has deployed many market-proven solutions and large-scale mission-critical projects across Asia spanning retail, government, and border control such as Singapore’s BioPass and RFID-enabled sea boarding pass for Singapore Cruise Centre.

In Japan, NEC Corp has managed extensive IT outsourcing projects such as the standardization of ICT operating environment, messaging platform and collaboration services, network and system infrastructure internally since 2004. This included the provision of standard NEC range of desktops, laptops and PDAs. The project is currently being implemented across all NEC subsidiaries including ASEAN, Australia, Greater China and other regions for more than 150,000 users.

Said Mr. Yagi, “This is similar in scope to that of the SOE Project called by IDA. NEC is one of the very few IT companies that have implemented an SOE of this mega-scale in Asia. At NEC, we are committed to bringing both local and overseas consultants and experts, so as to leverage on their know-how to successfully roll out the SOE project. We are confident that with our combination of market-proven SOE experience, know-how, unique technology, and competent consultants and strong affiliates such as CSC, we are able to provide the best value-add to IDA and the Singapore Government for the smooth implementation of SOE for the Singapore Public Service.”

NEC Corp has also implemented a Network Outsourcing Project for one of the major aviation operators in Japan encompassing consolidation of current carrier services, management and offering of WAN infrastructure with bigger bandwidth across Japan (more than 180 sites) and the management of LAN infrastructure with improved accessibility and availability. NEC is the key partner for the operator’s management of current and future IT demands to meet business growth.
