NEC showcases facial recognition technology at first ever face recognition security seminar in Singapore

Singapore, 26 November 2014 – NEC Asia Pacific will be showcasing NEC’s facial recognition technology in NEC’s first ever face recognition security seminar in Singapore at the Pan Pacific Hotel on 26 November 2014. NEC’s NeoFace® Watch technology will be showcased, which integrates face matching technology with video surveillance to extract faces in real time to detect identified persons, and can be used for law enforcement, retail or hospitality purposes to spot individuals.

The strength of NEC’s face recognition technology lies in its tolerance to poor quality, highly compressed surveillance videos and images. Poor quality webcam images can be used to produce the highest search results per second, and can be used to identify altered faces with a high level of accuracy.

The NeoFace® Reveal and NeoFace® Smart ID technology will also be introduced during the seminar. Neoface® Reveal is used for crime investigation purposes to search, process and match facial images to a mugshot database, while Neoface® Smart ID enables capturing and matching of face, finger and voice against a watchlist, and can be used from a smartphone or tablet during field operations.

NEC's Face Recognition technology achieved the highest performance evaluation in the recent Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) 2014 performed by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The test evaluated the accuracy of database enrollments and personal identity searches using massive volumes of face image data consisting of over 1.6 million people with varying grades of photo quality.

Test results revealed that NEC’s face recognition algorithms were faster than all other participating vendors, requiring approximately 0.2 seconds per image to create and search an image against 1.6 million records.  NEC’s matching rate is more than 6.2 million matches per second per core.

“The numerous successful deployments of NEC’s facial recognition technology worldwide are testimony of its strength. We are excited about implementing this technology in Singapore, and in working with customers and partners to enable the effective use of facial recognition here for businesses and government,” said Tan Boon Chin, Managing Director, Global Safety Division, NEC Corporation.
