NEC Asia Pacific takes part in Cloud Expo Asia 2018

Enhancing customer experience through AI and IoT data-driven solutions with predictive analytics powered by the Cloud

Singapore, 3 October 2018 - NEC Asia Pacific today announced its participation in Cloud Expo Asia, Asia’s biggest cloud and digital transformation show, held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, 10-11 October 2018.

In today’s digital age, the convergence of Big Data, the Cloud, the Internet of Things, and many related innovations have brought about profound changes to cities, businesses, and the lives of people who are part of them. At the same time, because these technologies have created bountiful opportunities, businesses in every industry need to understand how to utilize these technological advances to stay competitive.

In the 2-day showcase, NEC will present a number of cloud-based solutions utilizing AI and IoT technology in a wide variety of sectors, such as Retail, Transport, and Healthcare.

For the first time in Singapore, NEC will showcase a next-generation smart retail solution utilizing NEC’s facial recognition technology (which is recognized as the world's most accurate) (*), object recognition, and artificial intelligence technologies. This solution opens new possibilities for retailers to deliver a more personalized and smarter shopping experience, by recognizing pre-registered customers’ faces at the shop entrance, offering a promotion or recommendation based on the customers’ purchasing history, and allowing swift check-out via facial recognition, which eliminates the need to queue at a cash register.

Mr. Lim Kok Quee, Managing Director and Deputy CEO (ASEAN Sub-Region) of NEC Asia Pacific, comments, “NEC has strong computing and network technology backed by track record of over 100 years in the ICT industry. These technologies, together with our data-driven and predictive analytics, can provide customizable, innovative solutions to real-world challenges that accelerate business outcomes. Together with investment in cloud delivery, we believe that customers can achieve a cost efficient and high performance digital transformation of their businesses.”

More key highlights include:

1.    Transportation: Using AI towards Smooth and Convenient Public Transport
The NEC NeoCenter for Public Transport uses AI technology to reduce commuter waiting time for public buses, thereby increasing commuter satisfaction.

Buses are equipped with IoT-enabled devices that transmit telematic data back to the bus operation center, which is used together with AI prediction to estimate and optimize bus arrival/departure times.

2.    Liveable cities: Intelligent Video Data Mining
NeoCenter includes an intelligent video data mining platform that correlates and searches for scenes of interest applicable to operators, easing their efforts in performing manual video mining. Less manpower is required, and scenes of interest can be found in real-time for greater convenience.

3.    Liveable cities: Gaze Analytics For An Enriched Consumer Experience
NEC’s Gaze Detection technology shows information that a consumer is most interested in at a kiosk just by reading his/her eye gaze, without the need for multiple screens or a touch screen.

4.    Liveable Cities: NeoCentre Mobile
Facial Recognition performed through a body-worn camera, to allow for rapid and accurate identification of Persons Of Interest. This IoT device can be used flexibly, by either connecting to the backend system or working independently. Similarly, processing and image storage can be done on either the Cloud, or independently.

5.    Healthcare: Stroke Patient Recovery Prediction System
Using AI technology to measure patients’ health data with respect to stroke conditions, and predicting patients’ recovery periods, leading to increased hospital running efficiency, and a higher Quality of Life.

Mr Mervyn Cheah, Vice President of NEC Asia Pacific and Head of NEC Laboratories Singapore, will speak on the topic of, “Can AI Technologies Solve My Problems?” on 10 October 2018, 10.55 - 11.15 at AI and Machine Learning Theatre.
