NEC Asia Pacific presents AI-based security solutions at ITE College West

Singapore, 02 August, 2019 – NEC Asia Pacific (NEC APAC) showcased its industry-leading Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based biometrics and security solutions at ITE College West’s ABC & Multipliers Summit 2019. The summit took place on 31 July, 2019, in ITE College West’s West Repertory at Block 2, level 7.

At the booth, NEC showcased its multi-modal biometric authentication system alongside its mobile authentication service equipped with the latest liveness detection technology.

The multi-modal biometric authentication system employs NEC’s proprietary facial and iris recognition algorithms, both of which have been recognized as the world’s most accurate (*), to perform highly-reliable identity verification.

The mobile authentication service, designed for mobile devices and web browsers, prevents fraudulent access to e-government and various other online services through facial authentication processes which can detect and reject a fake face (such as photos, videos and 3D printed masks).

During the Summit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between NEC APAC and ITE. As part of the agreement, students and staff of ITE will be able to gain relevant industry experience via internships and attachments at NEC. NEC will also help ITE in shaping some of the curriculum on offer to ensure students are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge by the time they graduate and enter the workforce.

Vivian Tay, Senior Vice President, NEC APAC said, “NEC’s industry-leading solutions are deployed globally across various industries and sectors. With our global know-how and experience, NEC’s partnership with the Institute of Technical Education will play a key role in preparing Singapore’s future workforce.”

Ms Low Khah Gek, CEO, ITE, said, “We are pleased to collaborate with NEC on the enhancement of ITE’s Electronics and Security System Modules.  The set-up of NEC’s Facial Recognition Gantry System at ITE College West’s Advanced Security Technology Centre will undoubtedly give students excellent exposure to the emerging technologies in the electronics and security industry.”

Through the ABC Summit, key focus areas including Automation through AI and Robotic Process Automation; Big Data Analytics and Blockchain as well as Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing were highlighted. These focus areas are part of the ITE’s corporate strategic thrusts on Digitalisation and the college aims to incorporate them into its curriculum. Over 800 visitors, including current students and staff from ITE’s other campuses, attended the one-day summit.
