NEC supports post-pandemic business operations with smart crowd density analysis solution

Singapore, 17 June 2020 –NEC Asia Pacific (NEC APAC), the regional headquarters for NEC Corporation in Southeast Asia, today announced the availability of its new smart crowd density analysis solution to help businesses in the region measure and manage crowds in their facilities.

Targeted at societies and economies where social distancing is the norm, this new solution will give business owners, building operators and their visitors a visibility of the crowd situation within the facility, either remotely or on-premise, in real-time.

By analysing information from smart sensors, this solution provides an accurate number of people coming in and out of any area where it is deployed. No form of personal, identifiable data is recorded by the smart sensors as its only function is tabulating the number of people passing through the sensors.

When the size of the crowd exceeds a pre-determined threshold or there are trends of crowding at any particular location emerging, an alarm will be triggered. This gives the management sufficient time to take adequate measures to stem the flow of visitors.

NEC’s smart crowd density analysis solution can be deployed in various industries, including the hospitality and retail sectors. In hotels, the management team will be able to optimise their resources and stagger the check-in and check-out processes more efficiently while visitors can check the crowd levels within the hotel’s facilities, such as gyms and food establishments, through their mobile devices before setting off.
